Choose a solid color. Loud prints or too many colors will bring attention to your height and break your body up into shorter pieces. Example: Unforgettable Popcorn Knit Cardigan
Wear a monochrome outfit underneath the cardigan and rock the cardigan open. Monochrome means wearing an outfit where components are all the same color. See how I paired these two cardigans with all black underneath? This will lengthen your body and help you appear taller. Examples: Premium Moto Jeggings , All Tied Up Bodysuit, and Buckle Ankle Booties
Stick to a light or medium weight fabric, with little to no embellishments. Ruffles, belts, chunky designs will add unwanted body and chunky knit fabrics will overwhelm your short frame. Example: Plus Size Open Pocket Cardigan
The longer the better. Choose styles that hit almost your entire height or at the very minimum, past the top of your pants. This will create a long line and lengthen you. It's all about the long lines that draw the eye. Example: Carolina Cardigan
Skip the belt. While I am a huge fan of accessories, in this case the belt will ruin the long lines we are going for and break up your height. If you must opt for one that blends in with your monochrome outfit. Jewelry should be long and simple. Keep thinking long lines...

For oversized cardigans opt for chunky fabrics and embellished styles or louder prints. Ruffled collars & necklines, belts, fringe, poncho styles & embellishments help fill out your frame and accentuate your body's curves, or lack thereof. Also, consider draped shoulders and dolman sleeves to round out & add shape your frame. Example: Cozy Wool Drop Shoulder Cardigan
Choose short/medium lengths. Choosing styles that hit at/around the waist or cropped styles will break up your height better and "shorten" you a bit. Example: Renegade Contrasting Cardigan
When choosing longer styles, wear 2 or more colors underneath. Take the outfit in the photo below of me in the olive popcorn cardigan- instead of the short black boots- rock that look with medium to tall tan or cognac colored boots, preferably in a loose or oversized style. This will break up your height and give dimension to your outfit. Alternatively, wear with jeans instead of all black. Example: Hannah Cable Knit Cardigan
And for my usual disclaimer, these are just general tips & tricks that I find work best on my customers and myself. We are not all one size fits all and styling has no set rules! Do you stick to these tips or do you have another way that you rock cardigans?
